Dear friends,
I know more of you wonder why SEN main members, big part of them, , spend 99% of time in Fots and not on NTW, since the SEN history start on NTW. A decent question, I agree. Allow me to remind you (or inform) some facts:
1. Battle length: - Like all of you know, on NTW a 1 vs 1 battle can take 15-30 minutes or over 1 hour. A 2 vs 2 or 4 vs 4 can easy go up to + 2 hours. Add here the time spent on lobby to gather the players, or simply waiting for one to join...
On fots, because of some factors (random maps, (6 island maps and a map of open sea - Japan Sea) + ships speeds + ammo diversification + combat capability of ships (ramming, boarding, frequent explosions, torpedo's, coastal batteries, etc) - a fight never take on 1 vs 1 more then 3-5 minutes, (are fights on 1 vs 1 on island maps who "burn-out" on only 2 minutes) and a 2 vs 2 or 4 vs 4 MM (MatchMade) never take more then 10-15 min. max. The MM system usually find an opponent in 3-5 minutes of search, since are much more players in Shogun then NTW, and 2 vsw 2 or 4 vs 4 - search are meet in less then 1-2 min.
2. Battle quality: - All of you remember the eternal problem of lag in NTW. Even on 1 vs 1, more on 2 vs 2, a lot on 4 vs 4 . Not to talk about unknown players with bad net, who ruin a whole game, or, who
after + 1 hour simply drop. The slow-motion aim/fire. The freezing of the game. All of this, together, kill the fun, denies the "adrenaline" and the joy of the game. On last tournament on NTW, hosted by Italian Navy, a simple 2 vs 2 battle take + 2hours 30 min just to see how one of our friends drop before any result may come. Lost of time - lost of day. The fight was post-pone for the next day.
On the other hand, on Fots, the system take care about the lag. 90% of cases are no lag, and on the 10% of the others, are not on team battles. We fought a lot of 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3 or 4 vs 4 and never we meet lag. All battles run smooth and nice. Also, one enjoy to be able to make in a single hour 8-10 fights. The big part of us are adults, some of us are "old man.s" (like myself, hehe) we have family, children.s, wifes. Responsibility. Our time its limited. We come on-line to relax, 1-2-3 hours. If on this time we can make only one (bad) battle, where, after 2-3 hours of slow-motion. our friend or opponent drop, and all the battle end in a forced draw... what fun we get from there ? only frustration, nerves, no joy at all. No fun. But in Fots, since are almost no lag, since are much more players, in a single hour one easy can make 7-8 great fights.
3. Battle complexity: - We all love NTW. Simply rules, simply objectives, Kill or be killed. Open sea. Straight targets. Easy aim. Sails to be ripped by furious shots of chain. But...after a wile, one manage to
dominate all. The things become more a game of aim, shoot, run/avoid. Position your ship on wind.
On Fots, the challenge are on other levels. I remember my first days, when the huge complexity (compared with NTW) scare the hell out of me ! But slowly, after each fight, after each defeat, I lean. I was alone, so the process come slow. But the rewards where also higher, since today I am here with the best of you. Lest fast pass the differences:
On NTW, we have a bit more then a dozen of ships to choose, but mainly the pro players use the famous 106, the 122, the Ironclad, or the Santa. Ships skills are by nation, but the english one are the winner on most cases. Then we have the vet system, who add skill points - we all use that. We have 3 basic types of ammo, normal rounds, chain and grape. 90% of cases we use round ammo, then sometimes chain, and very rare grape. All our fights are on open sea. We are addicted to 1 ship rule, (and thats cool) and we use 90% of cases small or medium funds for battles in "one-ship" rule, best case 2 or 3 ships on medium funds. But since the lag its always there, more ships = more lag. From beginning we all have been forced to sacrifice the graphics quality (even if one of us use top-end quality pc.s) in order to reduce the lag. The game loose a lot with that...
Now on Fots, the things are much better: No need to reduce the graphics since are no lag. The game win a lot on aesthetics. The, all ships are Japanese, no more confusions of flags. Also, now each ship has her own quality, on speed, moral, fire-power, maneuverability, fire-range. Lets take a short look:

a) Kotetsu Ironclad - main ship (equivalent of 106) - also called "Admiral Ship" since any battle on MM has always 1 ship at least - the Admiral ship, always this particular Kotetsu. Why
"particular" ? Because he represent your fleet Admiral - thats grant a better moral, speed, hull strength (up to 7Also, Kotetsu class its unique: not like NTW, this Ironclad (Kōtetsu (甲鉄?, literally "Ironclad") - has the best in-game gun - power and range + 1000 !
Built in France in 1864 for the Confederate States Navy as CSS Stonewall, and acquired from the United States in February 1869, she was an ironclad ram warship - and this its become true on Fots ! The french design alow this powerful vessel to execute deadly ram attacks, with a amazing speed: she can "add" 6 (!) levels of speed: eastern, slow ahead, half ahead, full ahead, overheat, and ram speed ! On last level she can be the faster ship in-game, and are NO SHIPS in-game who can survive a well aimed ram attack. Only 2 ships have the ram ability: the Admiral Kotetsu and Ocean, a bigger and heavier Ironclad, also french. But we will talk about Ocean later. On the second post.
Just take a look here, on this vid, who show you how a small ship can kill a much bigger / better armed/armored one wih only right strategy:
